Hydrogen Sulphide, or H2S, is a naturally occurring gas. It is often referred to as sour gas, acid gas, stink damp or sulphureted hydrogen. H2S is colourless, heavier-than-air in its pure state, and extremely toxic! In low concentrations, it has a rotten egg smell and causes eye and throat irritation. H2S can deaden your sense of smell. At higher concentrations, it can cause death. For these reasons, training in how to protect yourself is crucial in any industry where H2S might be encountered.
The course covers the physical properties and health hazards of H2S, how to protect oneself and basic rescue techniques. Each student is required to operate a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), a detector tube device and perform rescue drag exercises. This course is recognized worldwide and complies with industry and Workplace Health & Safety Standards.
Course Outline:
- H2S Properties, Health Hazards & Locations
- Hazard Assessment & Control
- Respiratory Protection Equipment
- Detection of H2S
- Initial Response Strategy
- MSDS
- and much more!
As part of this course, you will:
- Take part in course activities (ie. donning/doffing and operating SCBA, perform Rescue Techniques)
- Take part in a written exam
Students do not have to be clean shaven to take the course.
