Mobile Elevated Work Platform

This course equips you to understand the hazards, the basic regulatory requirements, and the safe work practices that must be followed to prevent accidents and injuries when working with MEWPs.

Description

Valid: 3 years

Prerequisites: 

  • Be at least 16 years of age.
  • Government Issued Photo I.D. Ticket
  • Valid Fall Protection Certificate
  • PPE – hard hat, coveralls, steel toe boots, gloves, safety glasses, Hi-Viz Vest, Harness & Lanyards (Loaners Available), and weather appropriate clothing.
  • Fitness – Students must be physically fit to perform practical course related activities – medical conditions must be reported to Scheduling Coordinator at enrollment. 

Course Outline: If you work in aerial lifts or near them on the ground, you need to understand the hazards, the basic regulatory requirements, and the safety work practices that must be followed to prevent accidents and injuries. This program consists of morning classroom training session followed by a practical operating test and is recommended for new and existing operators of multiple types of elevated work platforms and aerial work platforms.

  • Knowledge and skills to correctly and safely operate an elevated work platform,
  • current applicable legislation,
  • vehicle stability and stabilizer systems,
  • causes of accidents/injury and hazard awareness,
  • operator responsibility,
  • pedestrian awareness, power line clearances,
  • Fall Protection (System components EWP specific fit and anchor points),
  • capacity plates, control systems,
  • on-slab versus rough terrain,
  • pre-shift inspection and reporting procedures
  • work site inspection etc.
